Public transit: A leftist plot to turn you into a government-controlled automaton

I couldn't help but laugh as I read this opinion column on the Fox News website:

Living in NYC has truly awakened me to the New York elite and their penchant for the city’s self-described brilliant public transit system. I think it sucks… just like public transit always does.

“Oh I just don’t think I could live without the subway system, it’s so convenient. I can get anywhere I need to go in the city in a flash.” Right. Or –and follow me on this here– I could live anywhere else in the country, take 3 steps out my front door, get into my car, and drive anywhere on the continent. How’s that for convenience? Not only is it faster, but my car generally doesn’t smell like mothballs and urine (last Tuesday notwithstanding). It would almost seem that –dare I say this– private transportation is more efficient than mass public-transit! That won’t change today’s leftists from disparaging the former and praising the latter. Why?

It’s simple. Control. It’s no secret that the environmental movement is ultimately designed to create new inroads into increased government control. All of the shots taken at emissions, the dependence on fossil fuels and noise pollution are designed to paint those things as symptoms of a problem, with the government able to step in as the solution. The root of their problem is ultimately your independence.
Laughable. I'll allow people to comment on the article in the comments.

Typical, right wing, wishful thinking sophistry.

"Right. Or –and follow me on this here– I could live anywhere else in the country, take 3 steps out my front door, get into my car, and drive anywhere on the continent"

that WOULD BE TRUE if I have my own PRIVATE HIGHWAY, and PRIVATE STREET, where NO ONE ELSE can Drive on it. Sorry but most of us are not that rich!, so we're not buying!...For as long as we have others driving on the streets, and highways, there are still some questions and considerations that needs answering, and left our CONVENIENTLY:

* Drive TO WHERE FROM WHERE EXACTLY?
* What are the TIMINGS of Travel?
* what TYPE of Vehicle are you using (judging by this prattle, I'd say a 4X4 Hummer, yeah, the one with the $100 per Fill up!)
* Where are you going to PARK your Car? and for how much on a WEEKLY bases?

It's no wonder we have a lousy transportation system in this city. Apparently, we have people in them that think just like you.

"but my car generally doesn’t smell like mothballs and urine (last Tuesday notwithstanding)"

As bad as our buses here in Ottawa, I have yet to ride a bus that smells like Urine. They are WORN, but not DIRTY, and you obviously haven't seen some of the cars that are running in Ottawa. Some smell even WORSE than Urine.

"It’s simple. Control. It’s no secret that the environmental movement is ultimately designed to create new inroads into increased government control."

Yeah? and why not go the other way around? why not say that the Automobile industry, Insurance Companies, and the Criminal Oil companies like BP, Mobile, Texas Oil, Irving, Texaco, and company, ALSO want to control our lives, by controling what we need to Operate those wheels?.

I WOULD RATHER HAVE A POLITICAN THAT CONTROLS MY LIFE FOR A SET PERIOD OF TIME, WHERE I CAN GET RID OF HIM/HER AFTER FEW YEARS, THAN SOME COWBOY OIL BARON, AN INSURANCE MILLIONAIRE, AND A POMPOUS AUTO-INDUSTRY CEO WITH NO MORAL COMPASS, ALL UNITING TOGETHER IN SQUEEZING ME DRY PERMANENTLY, AND WHERE I CANNOT VOTE ANY OF THEM OFF.

That reminds me of a recent CFRA poll that asked if:

Doucet and Cullen aren’t interested in keeping taxes down; this is just a thinly veiled attack on car owners by a couple of public transit lovers

I'm not sure if we should be surprised that 1594 CFRA listeners (or 89% of respondents) thought that they were dirty, evil, money grubbing, car hating, freedom destroying transit lovers.
